2015 – An Improvised Year In Review
30/December/2015CAMP!
02/July/2016I’m excited to announce a 2 day Improv Immersion in July 2016 with two of improv’s gurus; Annoyance Theatre founder Susan Messing and Second City’s Head of Advanced Improvisation Rachael Mason! This will be Susan’s & Rachael’s ONLY Immersion in Europe this year. The weekend will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July in Dublin.
The focus on this weekend intensive is Scene Work and a Long Form Improvisational Clinic. Susan will be working on scene work and stage picture and Rachael will be focussing on long form genre and structure. Participants will work with both teachers and with others at a similar level of improv experience.
Susan Messing created and teaches the Level Two curriculum at Chicago’s iO, is a founding member of The Annoyance Theatre, and creates for The Second City, where she is an alumna of the Chicago Main Stage. She is an adjunct professor for The University of Chicago, DePaul University, and The School at Steppenwolf. She performs with Blaine Swen in Blessing @ the iO, and Messing with a Friend at The Annoyance.
Rachael Mason is the head of Advanced Improvisation for The Second City. In addition, she created the Scenic Improv and Dramatic Improv programs for The Second City Training Center. She has performed with Baby Wants Candy, The Annoyance, ComedySportz, iO, The Second City National Touring Company, and is currently in the cast of The Second City Improv All-Stars.
PEOPLE SAY…:
“The courses are filled with greatness. From formats exploration with Mason to the coming from fun with Messing, it was a week of brilliance.”
– Jules Munns, The Nursery Theatre, London
“Not only do we love Rachael and Susan because they are what they are…. Badasses! But our theater and the local improv scene grew tremendously from their workshops. Fuck you for waiting to bring them to your town.”
– Jeromy Barber, Beta Theater. Houston, TX
“They are seasoned veterans of improvisation who give the work as much respect as they give each of their students. Their knowledge of the craft is vast and their love of watching students succeed is immeasurable. It is an exciting pleasure to work with the two of them and I always look forward to more.”
